Rumor: more than 50% of iPhone 13 models will support mmWave

mardi 1 juin 2021, 21:56 , par Mac Minute
More than half of iPhone 13 models set to be shipped later this year will support mmWave, according to DigiTimes (a subscription is required to read the entire article).
mmWave (millimeter wave spectrum) is the band of spectrum between 30 GHz and 300 GHz. Wedged between microwave and infrared waves, this spectrum can be used for high-speed wireless communications. Another part of the spectrum that’s being used in 5G is sub-6 GHz, which includes the portion of spectrum lower than 6 GHz. These bands are effective at providing coverage and have capacity for a wide range of uses.
mmWave is supported on all iPhone 12 models sold in the U.S., ranging from the iPhone 12 mini to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. iPhone 12 models sold in all other countries and regions are limited to sub-6GHz bands for 5G. However, the DigiTimes report rings true and aligns with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s prediction that iPhone 13 models will support mmWave 5G bands in more countries, likely including Canada, Japan, Australia, and some European countries.
