KA-Electronics Stereo Width Controller

After being contacted by several DIY customers who needed a simple width controller I decided to re-introduce a new smaller version of the original that was discontinued a number of years ago.

The board, measuring only 2"x 5" uses the original LR±S approach to Width Control but eliminates the Side Insert saving three ICs from the Side signal path.

The LR±S method, which I originally found in the Neumann VAB-84, does not require MS encoding. The Side path is processed with variable level and polarity to vary Side gain from -∞ to +6 dB. By adding or subtracting Side from Left and Right, width is varied from 0 % (mono) to 200% (wide).

An advantage to processing only Side level is that a single deck stepped switch (or single section linear pot) is all that is required to pivot MS ratio.

A bypass/process relay is included for A/B comparisons. (For full hardware bypass I recommend using an insert switcher.)
