mercredi 15 septembre 2021, 18:00 , par Sweetwater inSync
Universal Audio’s LUNA Recording System equips your Apollo-based studio with the sound and workflow of a large-scale audio production facility — one that’s jam-packed with world-class analog gear. An all-encompassing music production environment, LUNA enables you to track, edit, and mix within a single easy-to-navigate interface. LUNA is a feature-rich application that can easily replace your DAW, mixing console, and outboard processors. Best of all, it supplies you with the unsurpassed analog modeling that UA is famous for, baked right into LUNA’s virtual mixer.

New in Version 1.2

LUNA version 1.2 is a free download for
all LUNA users. This powerful update includes support for MCU-compatible DAW
controllers. You can configure up to six control surfaces on the Controllers
tab of LUNA’s Settings page, and use your surface to adjust volume and pan, as
well as toggle mute, solo, record enable, and input monitoring for your tracks.
Easy access to automation modes, transport controls, and other common editing
features is also included. What’s more, you get surface-integrated Bus Spill,
which effortlessly lays out individual tracks feeding a bus, as well as Focus
Module mode, which merges single-fader control surfaces into larger surface
configurations.

LUNA version 1.2 also includes a
dedicated Sidechain Input, which enables you to apply plug-ins and extensions —
including supported third-party plug-ins — to your tracks in creative ways.
This easy-to-use feature includes Sidechain Trim for sidechain-specific
modification of your source track level, along with Sidechain Solo, which
enables you to temporarily listen to your source. A Sidechain Console row has
also been added to the API Vision Channel Strip and API 2500 extensions.

Teeming with Analog Sound

LUNA is much more than a DAW with vintage-style aesthetics.
It allows you to track and mix through licensed emulations of API and Neve
consoles along with modeled tape machines from Studer and Ampex. With LUNA, every
project will sound like it was tracked and mixed in a top-flight analog studio.
Best of all, these emulations are seamlessly integrated into LUNA’s mixer — no
plug-in windows required. It’s as close to a classic analog mixing experience
as you’re going to find working in the box.

This year, I’ve tracked every record I’ve done with LUNA. It sounds so rich, warm, and analog that I can’t go back to my other DAW.Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Kings of Leon)

Ultra-tight Apollo Integration

LUNA’s ultra-tight integration with Apollo hardware enables
you to take control of your interface’s monitoring, talkback, and headphone
systems, and you can track and overdub with UAD DSP-accelerated plug-ins in
real time. You also get full software-based control over your Apollo’s Unison
mic preamps, all without leaving your production software. LUNA is about as
close as you can get to an analog workflow in the software realm with spot-on
analog sound and the creative immediacy of real-time processing.

Accelerated Realtime Monitoring

The secret to LUNA’s zero-latency performance is its
Accelerated Realtime Monitoring. This revolutionary technology yields
hyper-fast analog-style tracking and overdubbing by way of your Apollo’s
onboard DSP acceleration. If you’ve ever used an industry-standard DSP-assisted
hardware/DAW recording system, then you’ll have a pretty good idea of what LUNA
is capable of. Besides super-tight integration between LUNA and your Apollo
audio interface, this software also delivers unlimited track counts, contextual
editing and browsing, UAD and AU plug-in compatibility, a session autosave
function, and AAF importing.

LUNA’s integration with my Apollos lets me forget that I’m using a computer to make music. The crazy-low-latency workflow of LUNA has further blurred the line between production and mixing for me. With LUNA, I can just make records.Fab Dupont (Jennifer Lopez, David Crosby, Shakira)

Transform Your Mixes with LUNA Extensions

LUNA leverages UA’s industry-leading hardware emulation to
inject analog flavor into your tracks. LUNA includes Oxide, an extension that
arms you with integrated multitrack tape emulation right out of the box. If you’ve
struggled to attain that elusive “glued together” sound in your mixes, then Oxide’s
classic tape warmth delivers the goods. With LUNA’s built-in summing, your
previously sterile-sounding mixes will take on a big, beefy, punchy character.
And you won’t need to instantiate any extra plug-ins to do it.

Lurking beneath LUNA’s interface, you’ll find modeled summing circuitry, which lends a “finished” quality to your mix and gives you the ability to route tracks to buses, exactly like you would on a real-world analog console. What’s more, you can purchase Neve and API Summing Extensions, which re-create the sweet sounds of two of the industry’s most renowned studio consoles. Spot-on emulations of the legendary Studer A800 tape recorder and Ampex ATR-102 mastering tape recorder are also available if you’re looking to expand your tape options.

Studer A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder

For more than three decades, the Studer A800 has been an industry standard, and thanks to Studer A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder, you can infuse your mixes with the unmistakable sound of the world’s most popular 2-inch analog multitrack tape machine. For this LUNA extension, UA’s world-renowned engineers teamed with magnetic recording expert Jay McKnight to faithfully model the A800’s entire circuit path. And it delivers the goods — it’s the most accurate multitrack analog tape emulation you’re ever going to find.

Ampex ATR-102 Mastering Tape Recorder

Back in the day, a record wasn’t considered mastered until it was transferred onto an Ampex tape machine. The Ampex ATR-102 Mastering Tape Recorder extension gives your project that elusive final polish — the classic sound of a high-end analog recording. This extension faithfully re-creates the dynamics frequency response, and saturation characteristics of an Ampex tape machine. It’s the easiest way to achieve the indefinable sound that Platinum-selling professionals have relied on for decades.

Neve Summing

If you want your mixes to possess the vaunted sound of British iron, then you need to sum your tracks on a Neve console — it’s a core component of countless chart-topping albums. UA’s Neve Summing extension replicates every nuance of this fabled analog desk, from the three-dimensional nonlinearities to the analog punch to the vibrant sonic coloration. If you want your projects to sound like they were mixed on a Neve 80 series console, Neve Summing will make it happen.

API Summing

API consoles are legendary for their one-of-a-kind mid-forward punch, and UA’s API Summing LUNA extension delivers. Sum your mix through this extension, and you’ll experience aggressive, multidimensional analog coloration like nothing you’ve encountered before. If you want your mixes to reflect that unmistakable rock ‘n’ roll attitude, API Summing gives you that tried-and-true sound. Mix through this, and your clients will wonder where you stashed your console.

API Vision Console Emulation Bundle

True API connoisseurs will want to get their hands on the LUNA API Vision Console Emulation Bundle. This super-robust extension replicates virtually every aspect of API’s flagship Vision analog console, from one end to the other. With it, you can track in real time through true-to-life emulations of L-series preamps, EQs, compressors, gates, and filters, plus you can sum your tracks and buses through emulated API-style hybrid voltage/current summing circuits for that elusive “sounds like a record” quality.

Super-inspiring Virtual Instruments

Besides analog-gear emulations, LUNA also provides you with
a collection of superb virtual instruments. Given UA’s acclaimed expertise in modeling,
sampling, and synthesis, it’s no surprise that these software instruments
deliver unprecedented realism. LUNA comes with the Shape creative tool kit, an
outstanding software instrument with modern and vintage keys, drums/percussion,
guitar/bass, orchestral content, and real-time synthesis, providing your
arrangements with an excellent starting point.

Ravel Grand Piano and Moog Minimoog virtual instruments are also available via the LUNA Creator bundle, providing you with access to stellar emulations of a Steinway Model B and a vintage analog synthesizer, respectively.
