Apple issues apology for butterfly keyboard issue

If you’re annoyed with the butterfly keyboard on your MacBook, Apple might finally be on the verge of doing something about it.
The company issued an apology on Wednesday for ongoing problems with the third generation of its so-called butterfly keyboard. These issues leave some unable to use certain keys properly. The apology came following a column from the Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern. She said her MacBook Air’s keyboard had failed after only 4 months. Apple’s spokesman responded with the following comment: “We are aware that a small number of users are having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard and for that we are sorry. The vast majority of Mac notebook customers are having a positive experience with the new keyboard. If you have a problem, contact Apple customer service.” The issues themselves stem from the butterfly mechanism location underneath the keys that was introduced in April 2015. The device allows for thinner notebooks, but since the second generation of the keyboards, issues such as keys sticking and characters not appearing have surfaced. Apple eventually launched a keyboard repair program in June 2018 and the third generation of the keyboard was meant to fix the issue, but apparently hasn’t. In the face of prominent and negative press, a more concrete fix might be around the corner. Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
