How to use an iPad as a second screen with a Mac

If you want to extend the screen space available on your Mac without buying a second screen, or want to show off something on your Mac to someone using your iPad, or even want to run Mac apps on your iPad (sort of) you can. Or at least you will be able to when Catalina launches. (And you can do so now with third-party apps)
