As new Macs arrive, Apple announces major updates to Final Cut Pro

On the heels of a major update to Logic Pro, Apple on Monday announced new features for Final Cut Pro, its professional non-linear video editing app. Updates are coming to both the Mac and iPad versions later in November and are free. Here’s a list of what’s coming.

Final Cut Pro for Mac updates

Automatic timeline scrolling: Clips are in view under the playhead during playback.

Dynamic timeline view adjustment: Use the Zoom tool or keyboard shortcuts during playback.

At-a-glance timeline organization: Distinct colors are used to identify and highlight clips.

Quick cleaning within a timeline, and the ability to combine a selected group of overlapping connected clips into a single connected storyline.

Faster H.264 and HEVC exports.

Object Tracker with a new machine learning model that improves results.

Final Cut Pro for iPad updates

Voiceover capabilities: Record directly into the timeline.

Pro camera mode stabilization: Can be turned on or off by the user.

Combine a selected group of overlapping connected clips into a single connected storyline.

New keyboard shortcuts for voiceover and grouping clips.

New color-grading presets, titles, and generators.

The ability to import iMovie for iOS projects. Final Cut for iPad projects can be imported into the new version of Final Cut for Mac.

To update the app, head over to the App Store on your device and check the Update tab.
