Small number of Apple Vision Pro units develop identical cover glass crack

A small number of Apple Vision Pro owners have discovered that their spatial computers developed a hairline crack down the middle of the front cover glass without having been dropped.
Inphenite via reddit:

Like a few others, I just discovered a long crack in the front glass of my Vision Pro. It’s been sitting neatly in the Apple travel-case, and it’s been subject to very light use a couple of hours a day – I haven’t dropped it or similar, which should also be pretty evident from the rest of the glass being completely scratch and dent free. (The white dots are speckles of dust).
I’m traveling currently and not in the US.
I love the product but this is quite frustrating – anyone else with similar issues or experiences on how to handle this? I won’t be back in the US for a bit.

Tim Hardwick for MacRumors:

The first report was posted in the subreddit /r/VisionPro about 18 days ago, and several more have appeared in the last week. All of the images show a distinctly similar vertical hairline crack above the nose bridge, implying that the damage is occurring at a particular point of tension, where the curvature of the laminated glass is most pronounced.
We were unable to find additional similar reports on social media, on Apple’s online Support Community, or in the MacRumors forums, suggesting that this is quite possibly a manufacturing defect limited to a small batch of units, rather than a widespread problem.
The reports all mention that the crack became visible suddenly and for no apparent reason, after the headsets had been connected to the external battery pack and stored overnight (some in Apple’s Travel Case) with the soft front cover attached.

I noticed this day 1 with my Vision Pro. I didn’t have a travel case at that time, but it is possible when I charged it, I left the front cover on. I honestly don’t remember.
Had an appointment yesterday at my Apple store and was told that to get it fixed I’d have to pay the Applecare+ deductible, so I didn’t bother because I already knew of one other poster here who had the same issue. Also, if I’m going to pay it, I’d rather wait until it has some scratches from actual use.

MacDailyNews Take: Crackgate!
Seriously, you’re wearing it wrong.
Okay, all jokes aside: Apple Vision Pro is a first generation (really, a public beta) product. Issues will arise. Apple will fix them and make things right for early adopters. Subsequent models will include the fix.
