Gary Oldman leads season four of “Slow Horses,” which premiered globally on September 4, 2024 on Apple TV+.
Apple TV+’s hit series “Slow Horses,” is now into season four of its globally celebrated, Emmy Award-nominated and BAFTA Award-winning run. The series stars Academy Award winner Gary Oldman. Adapted from “Spook Street,” the fourth novel in Mick Herron’s CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning spy series “Slough House,” the six-episode fourth season of “Slow Horses” premiered globally on Wednesday, September 4th and will befollowed by one new episode weekly every Wednesday through October 9th on Apple TV+. The show continues to receive praise and accolades heading into its fourth season. “Slow Horses” recently scored nine Emmy Award nominations for its widely acclaimed third season, including Outstanding Drama Series and acting nominations for Oldman (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series), Jack Lowden (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series) and Jonathan Pryce (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series). The series also earned nominations in the following categories: Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score). Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but misanthropic leader of the spies who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes and who frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world. The returning ensemble cast also includes Academy Award nominee Kristin Scott Thomas, BAFTA Scotland Award winner Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kadiff Kirwan and Academy Award nominee Pryce. Screen Actors Guild Award winner Hugo Weaving, BAFTA Award winner Joanna Scanlan, Irish Film & Television Award winner Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke and James Callis join “Slow Horses” in season four. “Slow Horses” is a darkly humorous espionage drama that follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known un-affectionately as Slough House. Season four opens with a bombing that detonates personal secrets, rocking the already unstable foundations of Slough House. Stephen Warwick for iMore: Episode one landed on Wednesday and picked up right where the last season left off, both literally in terms of the plot, but also in terms of the broad strokes of genius that have made the show a success so far. It was an absolutely gripping first hour that I loved, but don’t just take my word for it. Slow Horses season four already has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, thanks to a glowing sweep of reviews from critics who’ve seen the season in full. “If anything, each series improves slightly on the last. Watching it is pure pleasure. There isn’t a wasted scene or a duff piece of dialogue. Every performance is perfectly calibrated…” the Daily Telegraph‘s Anita Singh said, scoring the show a perfect 5/5. Epoch Times‘ Michael Clark hailed director Adam Randall for not messing with the formula: “Randall’s biggest achievement here is in not messing about with what came before. As with the directors of the previous seasons, Randall strictly adheres to Smith’s vision of what the latter has described as the ‘anti-Bond.'” Rolling Stone‘s Alan Sepinwall described the new series as “enormously entertaining.” As expected, there’s plenty of praise for the show’s undisputed star Gary Oldman, who plays beleaguered head of the Slough House division Jackson Lamb. MacDailyNews Take: As we’ve done since the first season, we highly recommend “Slow Horses.” Fans can catch up on the first three seasons of “Slow Horses,” which all hold a Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, on Apple TV+. Additionally, Apple TV+ previously announced a fifth season set to be adapted from the fifth novel, “London Rules.” MacDailyNews Note: Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, on over 1 billion screens, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, Mac, popular smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, TCL and others, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles, and at tv.apple.com, for $9.99 per month with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers.
