Russian retailers reportedly launch Apple’s iPhone 16, skirting export bans
jeudi 19 septembre 2024, 15:16 , par Mac Daily News
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be available in five bold colors: black, white, pink, teal, and ultramarine.
Despite Apple’s export ban on Russia, Russian retailers have begun offering pre-sales of the latest iPhone model. Consumers in Russia can now pre-order the device at a significant premium compared to US prices. Reuters: Russia’s leading electronics retailer M.Video-Eldorado and mobile network operator MTS both claimed on Thursday to be the first in Russia to unveil Apple’s new iPhone 16. Apple paused all its product sales in Russia in March 2022 and halted services like ApplePay in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine while Western-imposed sanctions sought to curb technology exports to Russia. Russians will have to fork out several hundred dollars more than U.S. consumers for the iPhone 16. MacDailyNews Note: M.Video-Eldorado’s prices start at 112,999 roubles ($1,225) for the 128GB iPhone 16 (vs. US$799). The 1TB iPhone Pro Max was available for pre-order in Russia for 249,999 roubles ($2,710) vs US$1,599. We are currently about 1/5th of the way to being sustainable with Substack subscriptions.
