Pets and animals need time to acclimate to a new home or environment. They can also be stressed out during a move, such as when you’re packing or driving to your new Promenade Peak condo. Here are five helpful tips you can do to ease your pet’s anxiety and reduce the amount of stress for everyone.
Separate Their Food and Water Don’t put your pet’s food and water bowl along with the rest of the boxes, as you’ll need them as you travel. This will keep them grounded when they have something familiar. This tip becomes more important if you’ll be traveling longer distances. Frequent Stops for Stretching and Breaks Dogs and cats need to stretch their feet and breathe in fresh air once in a while. They can be cooped up for hours in their crate or inside the car, too. Plan frequent stops along the way- places of interest, such as parks, will be excellent for them. Bring Their Favorite Toy A pet’s favorite toy can ground them and provide a source of comfort. Do your pet a favor by having it on hand for easy access. Put it in their go bag or your purse or bag when you head out and drive to the new house. Teach Them to Sit or Stay The sit and stay command can be very useful in certain situations. They might stray off or run, or you might be occupied with something important. Before you leave, it’s best to try and teach them to sit or stay. Reward with plenty of treats and affection so they learn faster. Give Lots of Attention When You Arrive Give your pet a pat on the back for arriving at the new home. Lead them inside first, then give them food and fresh water.
