What is Prime Day? Prime Day is Amazon’s twice-a-year shopping event that happens in July and then again in October. During the Amazon sale event a ton of tech products get their best discounts. Oftentimes, these discounts are better than we’ll see on Black Friday— and we expect to see great discounts across the board for Apple tech, from iPads to MacBooks, Apple Watches, and everything else. We also see loads of discounts on storage, monitors, chargers, and smart home tech. If you’re also into Amazon’s brands (Kindle, Ring, Echo, etc.), expect fantastic deals for those too. Recently the sale has lasted 48 hours, but in 2025 Amazon is running the Prime Day sale for four days! 2. What do you need to do to get access to Prime Day deals? As its name suggests, the best Prime Day deals are strictly for Amazon Prime members. So, if you’re paying for a subscription to get free shipping and faster deliveries, as well as a bunch of other perks, you’re already good to go. If you’re not already subscribed, you can start a 30-day free trial, just make sure the trial extends through the Prime Day dates. Amazon Prime costs $14.99 per month or you could pay $139 for the whole year. If you’re a student, you can get it for as little as $7.49 per month or $69 per year. Discounts are also available for people who receive government assistance. If you don’t want to sign up for another subscription, there will still be plenty of discounts that come with such requirements. But you’ll miss out on the best prices, Lightning Deals, and of course, 2-day shipping. 3. When was Prime Day in previous years? In previous years, Amazon’s Prime Day event lasted for 48 hours, and always started on a Tuesday. Let’s check out the exact dates: 2024: July 16-17 and October 8-9 2023: July 11-12 and Oct 10-11 2022: July 12-13 and October 11-12 2021: June 21-22 2020: October 13-14 The first year Prime Day was held was in 2015 when Amazon wanted to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a bang. The sale was so successful that it stuck around and we’re happy it did because the discounts are impressive and many brands use Prime Day as the chance to lower the price more than they usually would. 4. Do you need to subscribe to Prime to shop on Prime Day? Yes and no. Let us explain. As the name suggests, Prime Day was designed as a special sale event to reward Prime members with special prices. So, you’d need to have a subscription to the service ($14.99/£8.99/AUD$6.99 per month or $139/£95/AUD$59 per year). If you’ve never been a member, you can also sign up for the 30-day free trial to cover the Prime Day deals. However, there are loads and loads of deals available during the event when a subscription to Prime is not necessary. They will just be straight-up discounts that anyone can enjoy. Whether or not your favorite products from Apple and other big brands will fall into this category remains to be seen. 5. Will there be discounts on Apple products for Prime Day? We usually see great discounts on pretty much all products from Apple. Newer devices don’t see huge discounts, but older products, including MacBooks as well as iPads and AirPods often do. Amazon will also run deals on Apple accessories, including Apple Pencils, keyboards, and mice, as well as stands, chargers, and cables from third-party accessory makers such as Anker and Logitech.
