The $599 MacBook rumor is persistent, but seems more likely than ever

He wasn't enormously far out, with the PowerBook 100 launching in 1991 — and what he renamed the MacBook Pro in 2006.If there were ever a stated ambition to make a low-cost MacBook, it wasn't made as public as the plans for a low-cost Macintosh were back in 1984.
