Spatial Computing Innovation Lab at Full Sail University
Full Sail University has announced the unveiling of its state-of-the-art Spatial Computing Innovation Lab located on the university’s Winter Park, FL campus. This cutting-edge lab is the first collegiate environment in the nation to be outfitted with the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera for use with Apple Vision Pro. The combination of these revolutionary technologies will allow students across Full Sail’s entertainment media and emerging technologies degree programs to embark upon real-world research and development projects utilizing the URSA Cine Immersive alongside Apple’s industry-leading spatial computer.
“Full Sail University’s Spatial Computing Innovation Lab is at the forefront of emerging technologies, exposing students to innovative and real-world immersive workflows,” said Dan May, President of the Americas for Blackmagic Design, in a statement. “We are thrilled to empower students with the tools to explore this powerful medium, enabling them to create stunning immersive content and incredible experiences with Apple Vision Pro. With URSA Cine Immersive, Full Sail University is preparing the next generation of creators to lead the future of entertainment and storytelling.”
Housed within Full Sail’s expanding emerging technologies wing, the Spatial Computing Innovation Lab is the latest addition to the existing 110-plus studios and labs on the university’s 210-plus acre campus. This latest facility incorporates:
• An URSA Cine Immersive camera: the world’s first camera system for capturing Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. The dual 8K sensors deliver 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye with pixel level synchronization and an incredible 16 stops of dynamic range
• Fifty Apple Vision Pro devices
• Six 24-inch M4 iMacs
• Two 98-inch Sony Bravia displays
• A Cisco Webex Room Bar
“For decades, we’ve educated students via powerful professional technology, inspiring them to create, build, and explore in their chosen fields of study. Simultaneously, Full Sail has propelled our graduates and the industries they serve by enabling them to lean forward, embracing the very technologies these industries utilize and innovate within,” said Isis Jones, CIO of Full Sail University, in a statement. “The Spatial Computing Innovation Lab is the latest evolution of our longstanding educational mission.”
In this future-facing lab, project-based curriculum and real-world education will intersect, allowing participants to engage in building and developing spatial computing experiences for areas including enterprise, education, medical, entertainment, sports, business, and training. Students studying emerging technologies, live event production, gaming, film, and recording arts will have opportunities to take part in advanced hands-on research projects in the innovation lab, including opportunities to develop projects alongside industry partners.
