UK Labour party backs a second Brexit referendum
lundi 25 février 2019, 19:17 , par BoingBoing
BREXIT 2? Jeremy Corbyn plans to tell a meeting of Labour MPs today that the party will support (or put forward an amendment for) a public vote to 'prevent a damaging Tory Brexit being forced on the country.'
Sky News: 'The prime minister is recklessly running down the clock, in an attempt to force MPs to choose between her botched deal and a disastrous no-deal,' he is due to tell them. 'We cannot and will not accept.' It comes after Theresa May admitted she will not get a revised Brexit deal in time for MPs to hold a 'meaningful vote' on it this week. Instead, MPs will again get the chance to table amendments and try to alter the future course of Brexit, including attempts to extend Article 50 and rule out leaving without a deal. Labour's initial focus will be on its official amendment, which puts forward its alternative Brexit plan for MPs to vote on. He will tell a meeting of Labour’s Parliamentary Labour Party this evening that the party will back the Cooper-Letwin amendment to take ‘No Deal’ off the table and announce that Labour will also put forward or support an amendment in favour of a public vote. — Ashley Cowburn (@ashcowburn) February 25, 2019 Labour says it is prepared to back another EU referendum to prevent a "damaging Tory #Brexit" https://t.co/vuK6yy3K7y — BBC Breaking News (@BBCBreaking) February 25, 2019 Well no wonder @arron_banks has to rent out his house & do a whip round for LeaveMeansCrimes funds. Bloomberg has done some sums...& turns out there’s not a whole lot in the piggy bankhttps://t.co/2UTLjIjgl1 — Carole Cadwalladr (@carolecadwalla) February 25, 2019 Brexit is not happening in a vacuum. It's why last week's DCMS report was so important. Anti-semitism is on the rise everywhere. And it's been helped & facilitated by the tech platforms. Labour's problem with anti-semitism is downstream. We must look at the bigger picture https://t.co/WD17N2jaQ1 — Carole Cadwalladr (@carolecadwalla) February 25, 2019 Theresa May is running out of Brexit options https://t.co/A3YR6xzlmi pic.twitter.com/jD2raF1naB — Bloomberg Brexit (@Brexit) February 25, 2019
