Optional Windows 10 update fixes printer, scanner, and crash bugs
Yesterday, Microsoft released update KB5045594 for Windows 10, which is an optional update that you have to manually install if you want to benefit from it. If you’re experiencing problems on your Windows 10 computer(s), we recommend installing it.

Why? Because some Windows 10 users have been complaining about printer problems in connection with USB cables. For some users, an unwanted network command text is printed when a USB connection is used. For others, scanner drivers fail to install via USB. This update aims to fix those USB-related issues.

The KB5045594 update also introduces the new account manager in the Windows 10 Start menu. Microsoft writes: “This update starts the roll out of the new account manager on the Start menu. The new design makes it easy to view your account and access account settings. To change to a different user, select the ellipses (…) next to Sign out. The Lock command is now on the power menu. Note: This change might not be available to all users because it will roll out gradually.”

There are also a few other bug fixes in this update, including resolution for an issue that caused a blue screen crash with error code 0x3B when upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

How to install update KB5045594

Go to the Windows settings under Update. There, search for KB5045594 and install it. Alternatively, you can also download this update directly from the Microsoft update catalog.

Microsoft will probably make the final version of KB5045594 available for automatic download on Patch Tuesday in November 2024. You will then no longer have to install this update manually, but it will be automatically installed on your Windows 10 PC.
