mercredi 22 octobre 2025, 23:18 , par InfoWorld
AI usage has become standard practice in software development, with 85% of developers in a recent JetBrains survey citing regular use of AI tools for coding and development. Additionally, 62% were relying on at least one AI-powered coding assistant, agent, or code editor. Only 15% of respondents had not adopted AI tools in their daily work.

These findings were included in JetBrains’ State of the Developer Ecosystem Report 2025, which was unveiled October 15. The survey covered topics including the use of AI tools, which programming languages developers currently use and want to use, and their perceptions of the current job market for developers.

The JetBrains report notes that 68% of developers anticipate AI proficiency will become a job requirement. Some 29% of developers said they were hopeful about the increasing role of AI in society and 22% said they were excited. However, 17% reported being anxious and 6% fearful. The most commonly used AI tools among the developers were ChatGPT (41%) and GitHub Copilot (30%). The top five concerns about AI reported by the developers were the quality of code (23%), limited understanding of complex code and logic by AI tools (18%), privacy and security (13%), negative effect on coding and development skills (11%), and lack of context awareness (10%). The top five benefits of using AI in coding and software development, the developers reported, were increased productivity (74%), faster completion of repetitive tasks (73%), less time spent searching for information (72%), faster coding and development (69%), and faster learning of new tools and technologies (65%).

JetBrains’s report was based on responses from 24,534 developers across 194 countries, who were surveyed from April to June. China had the most respondents, with 20%, while the USA was second, at 13%, followed by India, at 12%.

Other findings of JetBrains’ State of the Developer Ecosystem Report 2025:

The top five primary languages were Python (35%), Java (33%), JavaScript (26%), TypeScript (22%), and HTML/CSS (16%).

The top five languages developers most want to adopt next were Go (11%), Rust (10%), Python (7%), Kotlin (6%), and TypeScript (5%).

75% of the developers surveyed build websites and business software, while areas like games and AR/VR represent smaller segments.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is used by the largest share of the developers surveyed (43%), followed by Google Cloud Platform (22%) and Microsoft Azure (22%).

61% of junior developers find the job market challenging while 34% of senior developers share the same concern.
