Google Quietly Added ‘Vibe Coding’ to Gemini

jeudi 18 décembre 2025, 17:07 , par eWeek
Google is giving Gemini users a new way to tinker, experiment, and build.

The tech giant announced on Wednesday that Opal, its AI-powered mini app builder from Google Labs, is now available directly in the Gemini web app. The move means users no longer need to leave Gemini to create experimental tools, known as Gems, that are tailored to specific tasks.

Opal focuses on what many now call “vibe-coding.” Instead of writing code, users simply describe what they want an app to do in plain language. Gemini then uses its models to turn that idea into a working mini app.

Inside Gemini, Opal comes with a visual editor that shows how an app is built step-by-step. Users can rearrange steps, link them together, and see how everything works, all without writing a single line of code.

Google also added a new view that turns written prompts into a clear list of steps. According to the company, this makes it easier to understand and edit how each mini app works.

For users who want more control, Google says they can move from Gemini to Opal’s Advanced Editor at opal.google. This version offers deeper customization and finer control over how the mini apps behave. The company says apps built with Opal can be reused, making it possible for users to build their own personal library of AI tools over time.

The Opal integration comes as AI-powered app creation gains popularity. Tools from startups like Lovable and Cursor have pushed no-code and low-code development into the spotlight. Competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic are also building tools that let people create software just by chatting.

Google says the Opal experiment is now available in the Gemini web app at gemini.google.com.
