OpenAI Debuts Personalized Year-in-Review ChatGPT Experience for Users
mardi 23 décembre 2025, 12:24 , par eWeek
OpenAI has potentially unveiled its most shareable feature yet.
The company dropped “Your Year with ChatGPT” — a personalized year-end recap that mirrors Spotify Wrapped’s addictive format, complete with colorful graphics and revealing insights about how people actually use AI. Social media is already exploding with users sharing their surprisingly personal AI habits. The timing couldn’t be more perfect — with 2025 fading from view, this new feature analyzes your entire year of ChatGPT conversations, delivering everything from usage statistics to custom poems about your digital relationship with AI. The recap reveals conversation themes, assigns you a unique “archetype” based on your usage patterns, and even includes personalized awards like “Creative Debugger” for problem-solving sessions. Users are discovering they’ve had thousands of conversations covering everything from work crises to midnight existential questions. The privacy requirements sparking conversation Here’s where things get interesting — and potentially concerning. Accessing your recap requires specific data settings that many privacy-conscious users have disabled. The feature only works if you have “reference saved memories” and “reference chat history” enabled — settings that are turned on by default for most users. Users who prioritized privacy by disabling these features are now receiving error messages stating they need to enable data collection to access their recap. The feature specifically excludes conversations from Temporary Chat mode and isn’t available for Team, Enterprise, or Education accounts. What’s striking is OpenAI’s transparency about data usage. Free, Plus, and Pro users with “Improve the model for everyone” enabled may have their memories and chats used for AI training, while business customers’ data remains protected. The rollout is currently limited to users in the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia who meet minimum activity thresholds. AI adoption The launch coincides with remarkable data about AI adoption. Since February, ChatGPT’s share of general search queries tripled from 4.1% to 12.5%, with 66% of Gen Z now using ChatGPT for information versus 69% using Google. Reddit communities are flooded by users sharing their ChatGPT Wrapped results. Many report feeling both validated and humbled by their AI dependency patterns — realizing they’ve relied on ChatGPT for everything from travel planning to relationship advice. To access your recap, simply open ChatGPT and ask for “Your Year with ChatGPT” or look for the prompt on your home screen. The feature works across web, iOS, and Android platforms for eligible users. This development showcases how AI companies are borrowing successful engagement strategies from social media giants, transforming data analytics into shareable, viral content that drives user retention while revealing just how integral AI has become to modern digital life. It’s been a hectic year for OpenAI, and the firm has also just laid out its 2026 roadmap. The post OpenAI Debuts Personalized Year-in-Review ChatGPT Experience for Users appeared first on eWEEK.
