Can anyone identify this traditional instrument?
I was just gifted this instrument and I would love to properly identify it. I hope that I can find images of a complete one so that I can have this restored. How is it tuned? Is it played with a bow, or picked? How old is it?
What I do know:
The body is made from a Coco De Mer nut. It is a 6-string instrument, but only 5 pegs are intact. I don't know anything about the bridge it might use. Wraps of string to make frets. You can see many rubbed areas where the frets are missing.
I obtained this from an antique dealer in Dallas.
Thanks,
