High quality audio adds to the professionalism of a video. While echo might sometimes be natural, it can also be unwanted. I've conducted interviews in oversized rooms with hard surfaces that led to distracting audio, full of echos.
The truth is: you won't always have the luxury of perfect audio. And that's why it pays to learn how to remove echo in Premiere Pro.
For this example, I'm going to work with a fun piece of sample audio from Envato Elements, called Man Yelling Help from Cave. Echo is natural in that environment, but this is a great way example to practice how to reduce echo in Premiere.

We'll practice how to reduce echo in Premiere with the help of this clip from Envato Elements.

Without further adieu, let's jump into practicing how to get rid of echo in Premiere Pro. It only takes a few steps, and you're on your way to saving your audio!
1. Open Your Audio in Premiere Pro
To practice how to reduce echo in Premiere, we need to add our audio to a project. I've already downloaded the clip from Envato Elements, and it's easy to add to an active Premiere Project.
There are many ways to add files to Premiere, but my favorite is to simply drag-and-drop a file onto the timeline. You could also use the File > Import menu option, then add it to your timeline.

The first step to learn how to reduce echo in Premiere is adding a clip to your timeline.

Now, we're ready to work on how to get rid of echo in Premiere Pro. Read on to see the easy effect you can use for echo reduction.
Pro tip: if your Adobe Premiere Pro setup is different than mine, you can easily change it. Use the Window > Workspaces > Essentials setting to use the same layout.
2. Choose DeReverb From the Effects Panel
Now, we need to add an effect known as DeReverb. Find the Effects panel in Premiere. It holds the key to how to remove echo in Premiere Pro. If you switched to the Essentials layout, you'll find the Effects panel in the upper left region of the app.
Using the search box, type in DeReverb. The app will filter the list of available effects to show the one we need. You'll find it under the Noise Reduction / Restoration category.

Search for 'DeReverb' on the Effects panel to find the tool we need.

Now, you can simply drag and drop the effect on top of the audio clip in the timeline! This adds the DeReverb effect to the selected audio clip. You'll see it signaled with the fx flag on the track.

Drag and drop the effect on your audio in the timeline to reduce echo.

As a starting point, you can now press play to preview your audio. Many times, this will be more than enough for your needs! But if need more help, read on to find out how to reduce echo in Premiere further.
3. Adjust the DeReverb Effect
In many cases, the steps you've already followed will sufficiently reduce echo. But if you need a more powerful way for how to get rid of echo in Premiere, these settings are customizable.
Let's learn to use the Effect Controls. This is a panel to customize the effect we added. I dragged-and-dropped the Effect Controls panel from the right side of my layout onto the timeline area as a new tab.
When you switch to the Effect Controls tab, you'll see a section labeled DeReverb. Click on the dropdown arrow to open it. Also, open the Individual Parameters option. From there, you can tweak the Amount to increase or decrease the effect. Adjust the amount, then press play to test.

Use the Amount field to adjust how strong the DeReverb effect is.

You can always test your audio without the effect by ticking the Bypass button. This gives you an easy 'before and after' comparison for your audio.
