Choosing the Best Mic for Your Vocals? Five 5-star Mics Compared

Not every microphone is created equally, but you may be surprised to learn that finding the right mic for your vocal style has far less to do with things like price or brand and more to do with understanding how different types of microphones perform with distinct vocal deliveries. It’s a challenging task, and there’s seldom any one, specific choice that could be called “the best,” but we recruited the man we knew would have the stage and studio experience to help us understand what to look for, what matters, and why: NDV. Joined by Sweetwater’s own Olivia Kramer, Tyler Grooms, and Jordan Applegate, NDV grabbed five 5-star-reviewed microphones from Sweetwater and headed down to Sweetwater Studios — recruiting chief engineer Shawn Dealey along the way — to take each mic for a spin and demonstrate how differently they respond to and capture unique vocal styles.
