Hey y’all, I want to make an upgrade for my productions and overall sound of my records. Currently my system is as follows
Conversion: Lynx Aurora (N)
Lead Vocal Microphone: AKG XLII
Hardware / Pres
* AMS Neve 1073 DPX
* API 512V
* Distressor
* UA 6176
* API 525 (2)
I want to eventually add a solid 2 bus compressor (SSL G COMP or Alan Smart)
I also want to eventually upgrade my main vocal microphone as I feel I can do better than an AKG XLII which I’ve used for over 10 years now on vocals.
Forgive me, rant over. The question is this, should I upgrade my main vocal mic to the Soyuz 017 Tube Mic or should I wait and add a great SSL style bus compressor to my current setup?
I thought it would help to leave a link to my music so you can hear for yourself where my sound is at, maybe you think vocals are fine and I could benefit from an SSL style compressor or maybe you think the vocals could be better with the Soyuz Tube and I should wait on the SSL? Let me know
(If links don’t work look up Roderick August, song “If It Gets You Low - EP”)
