Transport controller compatible with Ableton Live's arrange

Hi,

I'm posting this in the general Music Computers thread as I'm looking for a transport controller that works across multiple DAWs:

Is anyone aware of an external controller that has transport buttons that can control Ableton Live's playhead in arrange? I know this might seem like an obvious 'sure loads of them do!' question - but in my experience Live does not allow a controller to move the playhead at all. Everything I've ever tried using moves the edit cursor but not the playhead. You see the bar position go up and down, but when you hit play, Live just starts from the last place the playhead cursor was, not where you've moved what looked like the playhead cursor to.

I've tried the current MPC's controller mode for Live, iPad apps, midi keyboard controllers with transport sections etc etc. Nothing ever does something other than visually move the edit cursor.

What I'd ideally find is a controller like a Presonus Faderport or Behringer X-Touch, something with a full transport section like Stop, Play, Record, Pause but also Bar/Beat forward and back buttons, like the larger MPCs have - and the controller must move the actual playhead cursor throughout Live's arrangement timeline, such that if you move to position Bar 9, hit play, it starts from Bar 9, not Bar 1.

I've seen people talking about this issue before, and something about the Live API not exposing this control, but is it really still the case in 2024 in Live 12.1?
