What's your experience with the RNDI?

I've been doing some shootouts recently, and I think I'm not actually sure I like my RNDI. I've got some BAE 1073 and 312A preamps, and I've been comparing my options with guitar and bass (i.e., straight into the pre's DI and into the pre via the RNDI), and I really don't like how the RNDI is behaving.
It's really uncomfortable to track with because of how slow it feels under the fingers, like there's a weird impedance/loading thing going on. Listening back, it also seems to add a lot of nasality and be quite flat compared to the 1073s which seem very open, 3D and generally mix-ready (albeit different from unit to unit). The only downside is the increased noise floor due to running the gain higher.
It's already been forensically looked at under warranty on a couple of occasions for seriously really weird behaviour, and that's not turned up any faults. I'm debating getting rid of it and buying a signal splitter instead, but thought I'd see if your mileage varied!
