Is This The Right Fiberglass Insulation For Soffit Traps (SuperChunks)?

lundi 4 novembre 2024, 16:21 , par Gearslutz
I've been researching how to build bass traps for my studio here in the UK. I'd like some tech heads to ensure that I'm heading in the right direction with this project.

The insulation: Knauf 170mm Insulation Space Standard Top Up Loft Roll

According to ChatGPT, the density is approximately 9.38 kg/m³. I think this is fairly light, and may be similar to OC's 'Pink Fluffy' commonly used in the United States. The idea is that with lower density fiberglass, the air flow resistivity values should be lower, making them more suitable for bass trapping for depths that exceed 8' (20cm). I've found the AFR values to be extremely hard to find on the web, especially for products here in the UK.

The front wall bass trap cuboids will be 20'x20'x92'. If you believe this fiberglass material to be too high a density value for this purpose, please let me know. The back wall traps will be 13'x13'

I'm considering adding either a scatter board OR a MLV membrane to the two front faces of the trap as not to soak the room dry and retain high frequency content but that is a topic for a later date and will likely be implemented after I've designed and built the traps.
