nooby Lynx Hilo AES port question

Hiya, sorry I’ve read stuff about these ports but can’t quite get my head around it, so apologies cos this is likely an ignorant question!

I’ve never used AES before, on the Lynx Hilo an AES IN and an AES OUT port on the back.

I don’t have much hardware so don’t really wanna get a big snake thing, but would love it if there’s some magical way I could get the AES out to output a stereo signal to two XLRs (to go into a bus compressor) and then route the 2 XLR outputs of the compressor into the AES in, or is that impossible?
