Sony C38B - female XLR..?

I bought a used Sony c38B on eBay from Japan, it arrived today.

I was perplexed to find the cable coming from the mic to be a female XLR, which means that in order to plug it in to a mic pre I would need a male to male XLR extension cable..

would that even work?

All other c38B's I see online comes with a male XLR, so this is a bit odd.

What do you recommend, buying a male to male XLR extension cable, or changing the connector to a male XLR.?

Also wondered if anyone has any tips to where to get the mic stand adpater for this mic, the base is bigger than most microphones ( I know AEA sells one, but it's $30... ugh)
