Garbage Ideas releases the FK Comp 500 Series Module
mardi 11 février 2025, 22:06 , par Gearslutz
![]() The FK comp has 3 basic modes: COMP, DRIVE and LINK. These are accessible by the 3 way switch at the bottom of the unit. In “COMP” mode the dynamic processing is operating in its standard mode. The unit has fixed threshold and ratio. The “You Did It!” lamp will light upon engaging dynamic reduction. Simply adjust the “IN” potentiometer to achieve more or less effect. The “MIX” potentiometer blends between the input signal and the effected signal post the “OUT” potentiometer which occurs prior to the summing of the wet and dry signal (the “MIX” potentiometer). In “DRIVE” mode the sidechain is disabled from controlling the gain control element, meaning no gain reduction will occur. However, this is not a true bypass as the line amplifier stage will remain in the audio path and can generate interesting distortion artifacts by manipulating the gain structures of the unit. In “LINK” mode the detectors of 2 FK comps will be integrated together for stereo usage if the 2 units are placed sequentially in odd/even slots (slot 1/slot 2 etc.) of a compatible 500 series rack. If successful, the “You Did It!” indicators of the 2 units will light at the same time when dynamic control is operational. Please keep in mind, balance of the left to right channels will still be controlled based on the gains of the left and right channels. Is it a level loc? NO!!! The FK Comp is a lot of things, but definitely not a level loc. Is it quiet? The noise spec is -70 dB 20c-20kc with input, mix and output turned all the way up. What that means is that if your source is quiet the FK can mangle your drums/bass/vocal/synth/piano/hurdygurdy to your hearts content with minimal noise.
