Vintagetools VT N95 PE & ME – Classic German EQ reborn (W495b inspired)
mercredi 30 avril 2025, 11:11 , par Gearslutz
![]() After nearly two decades of restoring and integrating classic German broadcast EQs into modern studio environments, we at vintagetools (www.vintagetools.de) have just released our first fully self-developed product: The VT N95 Equalizer. It’s not just inspired by the legendary PEa / W495b / W495STB, it’s a precise and faithful interpretation of the original design – built from scratch, with four original Haufe transformers, dual-mono architecture, and extended functionality that stays true to the sonic character of the classic units. Rather than reissuing the old Danner cassette format, we developed a 3U / 19” rack version, which gave us the flexibility to integrate: • a second mid band (1/4-octave stepped, overlapping frequencies) • more frequency options in low and high shelves (6 instead of 3) • stepped rotary switches for recallable precision • a robust internal analog PSU (100–250 V) • custom gain step configurations (on request) Two models are available: • VT N95 PE (Program EQ) – with original ±2 to ±15 dB gain steps • VT N95 ME (Mix EQ / Mastering EQ) – same EQ circuit and frequencies, but with finer gain increments (±1 to ±7 dB) and a few important internal refinements. The ME version uses a different (not better) Haufe output transformer and employs film capacitors (and select high-grade electrolytics) in key positions. The result is the same sonic footprint as the PE, but with slightly enhanced clarity, stereo precision, and an even cleaner low-THD+N performance – subtle, but useful for critical applications like mastering, without sacrificing the vintage character. Both versions are built to exacting standards and retain the tone and feel of the original W495b series – precise, musical, and unmistakably analog. We’re offering the initial production run via direct sales only to keep pricing fair and transparent. More info, specs, audio demos and videos here:
