Audio Hertz releases VHS Home Video Flavor Box (VST/AU/AAX)

Dave from Audio Hertz here. I’m excited to announce the release of VHS!

VHS is a creative effect plugin that authentically captures the sound of consumer videotape playback. We modeled it from two real VCRs, a 1979 JVC Vidstar and a 2001 Panasonic deck (my actual childhood VCR used to tape late-night TV), and pushed them way beyond normal use to get everything from subtle nostalgia to full-blown gritty saturation.

The result is a plugin that blends analog distortion, wow & flutter, limited dynamics and authentic noise into a compact, tweakable tone box. But it’s more than just a lo-fi tool. The limiter and 8-band EQ unlock tons of creative potential, and when pushed, the input stage responds in wild and musical ways.

VHS was developed in collaboration with audiosingularity, whose DSP expertise helped bring these old VCRs back to life in a way that’s both sonically detailed and creatively flexible.
