KIT Plugins Debuts NP A67 Plug-In
vendredi 15 août 2025, 17:03 , par Gearslutz
![]() Award-winning audio software developer KIT Plugins today announced the release of NP A67, a meticulously modeled plug-in that emulates a custom-modified Altec 1567A tube mixer/preamp used at the legendary Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico—the birthplace of the unmistakable “Clovis Sound” made famous by early recordings of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and many more. The NP A67 is the first product to emerge from a new, long-term exclusive collaboration between KIT Plugins and Norman Petty Studios, widely regarded as one of the most authentically preserved vintage recording studios in the world. This marks the beginning of a full line of Norman Petty Studio-inspired plug-ins and virtual instruments from KIT Plugins, aimed at celebrating the sonic heritage of this iconic studio, which has largely remained untouched since 1969. A rack-mounted tube mixer, originally designed as a radio station preamp, the Altec 1567A Tube Mixer Preamp — known for natural tube saturation, harmonic richness, mild distortion and low‑end warmth — was repurposed by Norman Petty in his late 1950s console. Petty used three such units—heavily modified, with discrete solid-state circuitry—for L/C/R stereo signal paths. Bringing the warmth and color of ‘50s and ‘60s analog gear into modern DAWs, KIT’s NP A67 delivers rich tube warmth, musical saturation, natural compression, and subtle harmonic color—reborn as a modern preamp and EQ plug-in for macOS and Windows (AAX, AU, VST3, iLok-protected). The NP A67 blends authentic tube-driven tone with enhanced mid‑band control, all in a single-plugin workflow. Whether you're tracking vocals, drums, guitars, or mastering, NP A67 brings vintage character with modern flexibility—letting you sculpt rich, era-defining warmth across generations of recorded sound. Key Features Tube Saturation & Drive: Input controls emulate tube distortion when pushed toward 0 dB, mirroring the natural compression of the original mixers. Analog Texture: Optional hum recreates generator noise from vintage components. EQ Additions: While the bass and treble mimic vintage tone stacks, the mid peaking band is a modern tweak—introduced to augment tonal shaping without deviating from the original’s character. Flexible Filters: HP (High-Pass) and LP (Low-Pass) Filters provide studio‑grade control to focus or tame frequency content based on use case. The NP A67 is available now for $49.
