Spectrasonics Announces Omnisphere 3 with Expanded Synthesis, FX, and Hardware Integration
Spectrasonics has announced Omnisphere 3, a significant update to its flagship synthesizer instrument. This new version introduces a host of new features, including an expanded sound library, new synthesis capabilities, a major effects overhaul with a dedicated FX rack plugin, and vastly expanded hardware integration. A New Sonic World At the heart of Omnisphere 3 is a massive new factory collection of 18 sound libraries, containing thousands of new patches from the Spectrasonics Sound Design team. All original classic Omnisphere patches have also been remastered to take advantage of the new v3 features and effects. Despite the massive influx of new content, Spectrasonics notes that due to new lossless optimization technology, the Omnisphere 3 sound library occupies the same amount of hard drive space as its predecessor. Workflow and Control The user experience has been updated with several new workflow enhancements. New adaptive global controls for Tone, Ambience, Filter, Envelope, Vibrato, and Unison allow for quick, musical adjustments to any patch. A new 'Patch Mutations' feature can instantly generate variations of any patch with a single click, ranging from subtle to extreme, with each mutation being automatically saved for later recall. The interface also sees a redesigned full browser with an extensive implementation of sub-categories, a new directory tree interface, and a simplified tagging system. Deeper Synthesis Omnisphere 3 dives deeper into sound design with a range of new synthesis tools: Quadzone Modulation: Offers new possibilities for dramatic timbral movement. Expanded Filter Section: The filter section is upgraded with 36 new filter types. Circuit Modeled Saturation: Provides analog-style coloration. Dual Frequency Shifter: A polyphonic dual frequency shifter that tracks the keyboard. Vintage Oscillator Drift: A new function to introduce analog instability. New Wavetables: A new collection of sweepable EDM wavetables. Unison Phase Scatter: New Unison options for creating lush sounds. Classic Glide Modes: Adds portamento curves from classic synths like the OBXA, Moog, and Odyssey. Polyphonic Expression: Full MPE support is now included. Hardware and Effects Integration For the first time, Omnisphere's Hardware Integration feature has been expanded to support every major brand of synthesizer and MIDI controller, with over 300 new hardware profiles included. This feature bridges the gap between hardware and software, offering hands-on control of Omnisphere from a wide variety of physical devices. The effects section has also received a major upgrade, with over 35 new FX units. Perhaps most notably, Omnisphere 3 now includes the Omnisphere FX Rack Plug-in, allowing users to load and use the instrument's effects processor within any DAW. New effects include: Reverbs: Super Verb, Velvet Verb, Solar Shimmer, Inversions. Delays: Refraction Delay, Swiss Army Delay, Backward Echo, Magnetic Echo. Creative: Flip Backward, Pump-O-Matic, Half Speeder, Warp Shifter, and more. Modulation: Unstable Drifter, Chameleon Chorus, Barberpole Phaser. Dynamics: Optical Leveling Amp, Multiband Compressor, Classic 1176 Limiter, and more. Color: Analog Studio Tape+Console, Vintage Enhancer, Tube Saturator, Noisemaker. Equalizers: Super Channel, Vintage British Desk, 1970s Class-A Console, and more. Distortion: Multiband Distortion, Tube Overdrive, Mean Machine.
