Sonuscore Announces LUX Orchestral Strings

![]() Sonuscore today announced LUX Orchestral Strings, a new flagship library designed to capture the sound and scale of the great Hollywood scores. With 70 string players recorded on a large concert stage, LUX is the company’s most ambitious project to date, offering composers an experience that feels as close as possible to standing on the scoring stage. “From the beginning, we set out to build something unlike anything we’ve ever made,” said Tilman Sillescu, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Sonuscore. “LUX gives composers not just an orchestral string ensemble, but a living, breathing instrument that inspires ambition in every note.” Some of the most memorable moments in cinema are inseparable from their music: the opening brass fanfare of Star Wars, the menacing low strings of Jaws, or the magical shimmer as E.T. and Elliott flew across the moon. These scores did more than support the films – they became part of the cultural memory. LUX Orchestral Strings was created to capture that very power, enabling today’s composers to write music that resonates on the same emotional scale. What Makes LUX Different LUX introduces five innovations designed to set it apart from existing orchestral libraries: SAT Technology – Seamless Articulation Transitioning Switching articulations is no longer mechanical. With SAT, the way you strike the key controls the transition. Play softly for a gradual fade, play harder for an immediate switch. The result feels alive, fluid and expressive, just as if you were standing in front of real players. Comprehensive Bleed Microphones – Done Right Only a few libraries offer a bleed option, and usually only in a limited way. With LUX the team set out to capture the true experience of a full orchestral scoring session, and took it much further. In total 48 microphones were used. 28 for the main capture including tree, far and string close mics, and another 20 across the brass, woodwinds and percussion sections to record their natural spill into the strings. This recreated the complete orchestral recording setup, with every mic you would expect to find on a professional scoring stage. With LUX you can choose how much of that natural spill you want in your mix, from just a touch of colour to the full character of the scoring stage. The result is bleed that does not feel like an added effect, but like the resonance and interplay of a real orchestra in the room. Other libraries hint at it. LUX delivers it in full. Morphing Articulations – Evolving Sounds in Real Time LUX lets you do something sample libraries rarely achieve: shape articulations as if they were alive. Using the mod wheel, you can blend seamlessly between two or more articulations in real time. Sustains can melt into tremolos, sul ponticello textures can swell into shimmering atmospheres, and a staccato can transform into a powerful sforzando with a single movement. This gives writing a sense of evolution and breath, turning static patches into living performances that respond to the player’s touch. Composer-Crafted Ensembles – Instant Inspiration When an idea strikes, speed matters. LUX includes carefully designed ensembles, created by composers who understand orchestral balance. You can sketch a soaring passage or a driving rhythm in seconds, then expand it into detailed individual parts later. These ensembles are not shortcuts, they are inspiration engines. Even better, users can customize them. Key Switch Sets for Every Musical Context LUX introduces dedicated Key Switch sets tailored to specific scoring needs. Whether you are writing an action sequence, a lyrical theme, a shimmering texture, or a melodic passage, you can load a single set that contains all the articulations you need for that context. This approach transforms workflow, keeping you in the flow of composition and ensuring the library bends to your needs, not the other way around. The Orchestra At its core, LUX features a 70-piece symphonic string ensemble recorded on a large concert stage with traditional seating: 18 First Violins 16 Second Violins 14 Violas 12 Celli 10 Contrabasses Multiple microphone positions – including Close, Decca, Far, and the exclusive Bleed option, give users complete control, from intimate detail to cinematic grandeur. Beyond The Basics LUX offers a full range of articulations and advanced techniques, including: Adaptive Legato for natural phrasing. Extended techniques such as whisper sustains, harmonics legato, pendulum glissandi, slow bends, and swarm textures. Live-recorded elements including trill figures, measured arpeggios, and orchestral gestures. Polyphonic legato available in ensemble instrument for instant orchestrations. Full dynamic range from ppp to fff. The result is an orchestral string ensemble that behaves not like a programmed tool but like a true ensemble, capable of delicate nuance and overwhelming power. Scoring For Every Story LUX provides textures suited to every cinematic mood: Action - crisp staccatos, runs, marcato drives. Emotion - lyrical legato and soaring melodies. Suspense - evolving textures and tense tremolos. Romance - whisper legato and warm harmonic layers. Fantasy - shimmering trills and magical soundscapes.
