Toontrack releases "Infinity Grid EZX" featuring TesseracT Drummer Jay Postones

Toontrack has announced the release of the Infinity Grid EZX, a new expansion for its popular drum software, EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3. This library is designed to capture the signature sound of Jay Postones, the drummer for the progressive metal band TesseracT. This new title marks the 71st installment in Toontrack's growing collection of EZX expansions. A Focus on Progressive Metal Drums The Infinity Grid EZX aims to provide a wide sonic spectrum for modern and progressive metal production, ranging from heavy impact to nuanced detail. The EZX features three distinct drum kits, which were handpicked to offer a diverse palette of sounds. The recording sessions took place in at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, with engineer Steve Blackmon at the helm. The room was selected for its acoustics—reflective enough to allow the drums to 'sing,' yet tight enough that the natural reverb does not obscure the finer details. This setting was crucial for achieving the EZX's vision: a sound that is dark, hard-hitting, and punchy, while still maintaining the vibrantly articulate and dynamic range required for modern progressive metal. A key element in shaping the EZX's final sound is the included set of mix-ready presets. These presets incorporate layered one-shot samples, which add considerable attack, smack, and depth to the kick and snare hits. The presets were engineered not only by Steve Blackmon and Toontrack but also by TesseracT guitarist Acle Kahney, offering drums that should cut fiercely through a dense mix. For those who prefer to start with a less-processed foundation, an Original Mix preset for each kit is also provided, offering the raw-sounding drums without additional saturation or textures.
